Observatory for water accidents
Annual report: Observatory for water accidents in Greece in 2025:

Safe Water Sports has etsablished in cooperation with the State the ''Observatory for accidents'' which allows for the accurate recording of data related to drownings and accidents at sea and internal waters (polls, lakes, rivers etc) in cooperation with the Hellenic Coast Guard and the Hellenic Police respectively.
The Organization has udnertakes the statistical analysis of data of the Observatory, in order to plan the national policy for supporting prevention activities amining at the continuous reduction of loss of life.
At Sea:
-
For the period 2021–2025, every year an average of 373 people lose their lives during recreational activities.

In 2025, 31 fewer fatal accidents were recorded compared with 2024.
-
8 out of 10 people who lose their lives at sea die from drowning.
-
80% of the people who lose their lives at sea are over 60.
-
61% of the people who lose their lives at sea are Greek nationals.
-
Lifeguard coverage was 97%.
-
In 2025, 64% of fatal accidents took place on beaches without lifeguard coverage.
-
In Greece, 364 accessible beaches for people with disabilities are recorded.
In Inland Waters:
-
For the period 2021–2025, every year an average of 14 people lose their lives during recreational activities.

50% of fatal accidents that occur in inland waters take place in hotel swimming pools.

In 2025, 19 people lost their lives in inland waters
