Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Insular Policy
Since 2016, Safe Sports has signed a memorandum of cooperation with the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Insular Policy and the Port Authorities - Hellenic Coast Guard, in order to develop a series of joint initiatives such as: the support of the Coast Guard through I.T. for the effective management of controls and inspections regarding lifeguards and professionals / watersports centers, the modernization of the legislation about citizens' safety at sea, the implementation of educational actions at schools, the raise of public awareness on safety issues at sea, the operation of the Observatory for water accidents etc.
Ministry of Culture and Sports
In 2020, a memorandum of cooperation was signed between Safe Water Sports and the Ministry of Culture and Sports with the aim of developing joint actions that include: the share knowledge of the Organization in relation to international practices and regulations in the field of safety in the water (such as swimming pools), at sea and in water sports, the exchange of information contained in the electronic platform of the Organization and at services provided by the General Secretariat of Sports in order to capture the services offered in the field of water-based activities (sports and recreation), the implementation of joint actions to raise public awareness, prevent and enhance safety in water sports activities.
Safe Water Sports also participates in the awareness campaign named "Live in an athletic way", where well-known athletes of the wet track field, inform and give their own advice on water safety and issues of students’ education at schools. Also, in cooperation with the General Secretariat of Sports, the regular transmit of information (through the Safe Water Sports Information System) has been established by the GSA to the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Insular Policy, in order to make the controls related to the qualifications of employed water ski coaches in watersports centers more effective.
Ministry of Tourism
A memorandum of cooperation between Safe Water Sports and the Ministry of Tourism was signed in 2019 with the aim of developing joint actions that include: the Organization's share of knowledge in relation to international practices and regulations in the field of water safety (swimming pools, tourist ports, etc.), at sea and in water-related and recreational facilities, the use of the information included on the electronic platform of the Organization (Safe Water Sports mobile app / website) from the point of view of tourism, the promotion of maritime tourism, the implementation of informative programs and actions for children and young people who live in our country or visit it, on maritime safety as well as the protection of the country's marine environment and cultural resources.
The adoption of the United Nations Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development, named the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) 14 "LIFE IN THE WATER" and 17 "COOPERATION FOR THE OBJECTIVES", is of great importance as they refer to issues related to water life and the promotion of synergies between the State and Civil Society.
Ministry of Citizen Protection
In 2020, a memorandum of cooperation has been signed among Safe Water Sports, the Ministry of Citizen Protection and the Hellenic Police in order to develop joint actions that include: the recording of accidents in water recreational activities in inland waters, the knowledge sharing of the Organization in relation to international practices and regulations in the field of water safety and the implementation of joint actions to raise awareness and inform society, prevent and enhance safety in water sports and recreational activities.
Greek National Tourism Organisation
A memorandum of cooperation between Safe Water Sports and the Greek National Tourism Organization (EOT) was signed in 2021,in order to undertake joint initiatives that include: the utilization of all the information included in the electronic platform Safe Water Sports mobile app, on the EOT's website and social networks, the provision of integrated services of maritime tourism but also the information of tourists, the participation and cooperation in the international exhibitions and events where EOT participates and finally the joint elaboration of promotional programs and actions in domestic and foreign bodies related to tourism (e.g. tour operators).
Cooperation with the National Public Health Organization
Safe Water Sports and the National Public Health Organization have agreed on a series of joint initiatives to enhance safety in the aquatic environment and reduce drownings and fatal accidents. The partnership between these two Organizations develops the conditions for a substantial enhancement of safety at sea and in water, through specific initiatives and multiple actions such as: beach controls , strict rules in water sports centers, citizens' awareness about safety and morphology of the Greek beaches, epidemiological surveillance of accidents in water activities, as well as an awareness campaign of safety at sea for elder people.
Union of Lifeguard Schools of Greece
Safe Water Sports cooperates with the Union of Lifeguard Schools of Greece, which is responsible for the training of lifeguards at seas and in swimming pools as well as the provision of lifeguard services in municipalities. The cooperation concerns areas such as: joint legislative initiatives, as well as the development of an innovative application (Lifeguard Rescue mobile app) that was developed by the Organization and records in real time all types of rescues and cases of first aid at beaches given by lifeguards. This information is an important aid in planning an even more effective nationwide lifeguard coverage of the beaches in the upcoming years.
Central Union of Greek Municipalities
A Memorandum of Cooperation has been signed with the Central Union of Greek Municipalities (KEDE) and the Union of Lifeguard Schools of Greece (ESNE) that aims to develop joint actions to reduce drownings and accidents at sea in cooperation with local authorities. The result of this cooperation is the development of a pilot study regarding the cost of lifeguard coverage throughout the country as well as the creation of a model contract and a proclamation for the supply of lifeguard services by local authorities. The bodies also cooperate on legislative initiatives to enhance safety in the aquatic environment.
